A passion for his community.
James, born into a military family, has lived in many locations, including Spain, Florida, West Virginia, California and Missouri, but there’s only one place he calls home, Wichita, having moved here in 1985.
As a young man James worked in construction, customer service, sales and management. In 1998, James began a career at Raytheon Aircraft (now Textron Aviation) making composite aircraft parts. James was a Union Shop Steward during his eleven years at Raytheon, and a member of the IAM (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers). In 2010, he was elected to serve as the City Councilman for Wichita’s third district, located in southeast Wichita.
James met his wife, Amie Wills, on a mission trip and they were married in November 1995. James and Amie have three children, Ian, Eden and Lily. Throughout the years, James has enjoyed serving in his church, being part of several singing groups and volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, as an Assistant Scoutmaster of his son’s troop. James is the Chairman of the Sedgwick County Association of Cities, a member of Inter-Faith Ministries board, a member of the Cowtown Board and a member of the Community and Economic Development Policy Steering Committee for the National League of Cities.
